Wednesday Photographs: Low Tide (on Pemba) + Quotes

Wednesday photographs ON WEDNESDAY (woah!)…  We’ve been watching the Olympics all week.  It’s amazing to see the races, matches, jumps – the struggles of athletes who have trained years for a few moments on the world’s stage.  Some win (most lose) .. but it’s such an accomplishment Just To Be There.

Why are today’s pics about  the tides vs. sport?  well, those athletes will be a Bit Tired (for sure) after expending all that energy, so i started looking through restful beach pics but then found the following from Pemba (an island near Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania) featuring The Tides – Low & High – that are kinda like the ebb & flow of life…

“The lowest ebb is the turn of the tide.”  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“Happiness is not a matter of events; it depends upon the tides of the mind.”   Alice Meynell

“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems that you cannot hold on a minute longer… Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.”  Harriet Beecher Stowe

“Life is uncharted territory.  It reveals its story one moment at a time.”  Leo F. Buscaglia

… the tide coming in on Pemba…

“Sometimes on the way to a dream, you get lost & find a better one.”  (Unknown)

  1. Beautiful pictures and thoughtful quotes, Virginia! Thanks; I needed this today. It was like a mini-retreat.

Thanks so much Sharron – ’twas restful looking through the Pemba beach pics (& remembering all the wonderful beach outings with buddies in Dar es Salaam on Sundays, basking in the glorious turquoise of the Indian Ocean! rest & restoration for busy relief & development workers : )

Thanksliving – all the time, but esp grateful to God for those precious moments enjoying the beauty of creation… (& the sunshine, the ocean, food & fellowship with friends..)

      grace, peace & beachniks – Virginia : )

Looks like a truly beautiful place. I second Sharron’s comment. The one from Alice Maynell reminds me of a comment from St. Paul (Phillipians 4:13) about being content in every situation, whatever the circumstances, because he could do everything through God. Paul learned to be happy and content no matter what the situation, whether in palace or prison.

Alice Maynell was a devout lady of faith & writer at the turn of the century … so interesting reading about her life. .. AMEN to St. Paul – Philippians 4 is a favorite chapter – rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS – give thanks IN all circumstances et all… (not for, but the way, like for sure you won’t thank God FOR your kidney stones, but you can thank God that in the throes of kidney stone challenges, He is meeting your needs & all that time in those German hospitals, guess what? His Light is shining through you (ok, ok, maybe it’s a little dimmer when The Pain Strikes, but hey, thank God for pain pills!)

Thanks for this reminder & many prayers for you & your fam in Deutschland!

      grace, peace & spiritual contentment
