Late last night my brother and I braved the elements of blustery 25mph wind gusts and 10°F wind chills (-12.22°C) to see the Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse.
It was so COOL (not just the frigid temps) but seeing the moon go totally rad.
(Rad = going from brilliant white to a blood-reddish eclipse.)
Bundled up in sweaters, coats, scarves, earmuffs, hats & gloves, Dwight and I went ‘over the moon’ with many wows from 11:30PM til after midnight.

When we stepped outside we couldn’t believe how crystal clear the sky was with stars twinkling everywhere. As the moon moved more into shadow, the stars shone all the brighter.
Getting closer to total eclipse
Viewing the moon through our high-powered binoculars, it looked like a gray shadow engulfed it.
But with the naked eye, the moon looked blood-red-orange.
These pictures from my pocket camera can’t do justice to the glorious moon & starry goings-on we witnessed, but hope this glimpse gives you an idea of the majesty of the Super Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse.

I did so want to see that moon, though I have seen them before, but with the temp at -30 and a bit colder with the wind chill, I decided to stay indoors where I was unable to see it, except for the very beginning. Sigh. Thanks for sharing your photos!

Thank you, DN – Sorry about the clouds blocking your view. After miserable weekend weather, we were blessed with an incredibly clear starry night just in time for the eclipse. 25mph wind gusts & frigid temps made it a little challenging, but I’ll never forget how close the moon looked thru the binocs, or how cool the eclipse looked even with our naked eyes. Plus – while watching the moon we saw a shooting star!

Beautiful pictures Virginia! Thanks so much for posting them. We missed the eclipse over here. Well- I was asleep; husband took a walk down the street to try and catch a glimpse, but there was too much cloud cover twixt us and the moon.
Jane – we were blessed that after several dreary days the clouds lifted an hour or so before the eclipse, unveiling the most glorious starry sky. Frigid cold, but so worth it witnessing something so extraordinary. My pocket-camera glimpses only captured the moon – but let your imagination paint a sky full of twinkling stars. Blessings! 🙂
