A Friday Birthday in #LENT

Today is my brother Dwight’s birthday. Since he is my younger brother (by 18 months) his age shall not be disclosed. Let’s just say he is – a year older than last year!

Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello (Charlottesville, VA)

Two years ago we spent a few days in Charlottesville celebrating his birthday. Enjoying a huge piece of cake while visiting Monticello I completely forgot it was a Friday in Lent until after the last crumb disappeared. (Since Virginia is a vegetarian, on Lenten Fridays of Abstinence she tries to dial in the treats to zero. Plus, she had given up sweets that year for Lent!??)

You can read all about that previous Lenten Friday fiasco by clicking here: Friday Failures: Cake! Cake! Cake!

As we celebrate today, I must needs remember: NO CAKE.

But, of course, Dwight can enjoy a big piece!

HaPpY BIRTHDAY DWIGHT!!

grace, peace & birthday treats

โ€œBirthdays are important. On our birthdays we celebrate being alive. We should never forget our birthdays or the birthdays of those who are close to us. They remind us that what is important is not what we do or accomplish, not what we have or who we know, but that we are, here and now. On birthdays let us be grateful for the gift of life.โ€ Henri Nouwen,

Lois, glad you agree that life is a gift! We certainly had a grand time celebrating my brotherโ€™s birthday. Blessings & blogging hugs! ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŽŠ

I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective about birthdays Virginia. They are a celebration of life. So, Happy Birthday Dwight! ๐Ÿ˜€

Now about that decision not to eat cake. I think if you found yourself a good lawyer, or a highly plausible argument based on VAT duty payable, they/you might be able to argue a case for the cake actually being defined as biscuit! Hence, problem solved! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Have a wonderful day celebrating!

LoL, Dewin! We had a grand time celebrating Dwightโ€™s birthday traipsing around Va. Beach. ( The Va. Beach Aquarium there is amazing. My brother has two big fish tanks & is mad for fishies!) He had the most amazing desserts over birthday weekend, but I enjoyed them vicariously (good lawyers or no, I have to cut out sweets for health reasons, so good thing Kent gives me extra willpower to โ€œjust say no!โ€)

Blessings to you & your family! Be careful (& wash your hands!) ๐Ÿงผ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿงผ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿงผ๐Ÿค—
